Hello,
I have just started using Ubuntu operating system.
I’m unable to play the songs and videos(mp3,.avi files) which are there in my system,it is showing error code and saying to download plugins for playing the file. Is there a way where i can solve the problem with out using any internet connection ie. download and use type

Mp3 plugin installed for Rhythmbox music player, do:
sudo aptitude install gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3

For video,
1) Install vlc – sudo apt-get install vlc
2) Start default Movie Player (Totem), try playing any video file and then it asks for necessary codec, download it and things become normal again!!

I somehow heard long time ago that the shapes of auroras in the north and south poles are almost the same or symmetric to each other at the same time. Is this true?

So I guess it’s safe to say Keyring is someone who loves that cell phone. Free speech is about the right to say what you feel is truth. My truth is that I don’t enjoy overhearing the juicy details of your life when I didn’t ask for them. Or watching you have a conversation with someone on your phone while paying for something at the register while ignoring the person right in front of you. It’s not about being sanctimonius; it’s about treating others and yourself with respect.

I start singing show tunes at full volume right next to the obnoxious cell phone addict. And if they’re really annoying, I do it in my Ethel Merman voice.

A photoshop plugin or a Sony Vegas plugin

both are good.very good.F

I am looking for a good photo editing program where I can add all sorts of effects and such but that is also user friendly..I know of Photoshop Elements, but I am wondering what other programs are out there that are just as good if not better.

My Jeep won’t turn over. The starter cranks but the engine won’t start. When I put the gas pedal to the floor, the engine roars to life, but when i take my foot off the gas, it dies. We think it’s the fuel pump or the fuel filter (filters). I want to price the repair but I need to know the fuel filter count. Thx.
We did the check of the fuel pump like takari k said and gas came through.

There is just one in the tank attached to the fuel pump. You could only get the filter with the pump (i.e., as a complete assembly), at least that was the way it was a few years ago.

Prior to replacing the filter/pump, check the fuel pressure to the throttle body, replace pump/filter if pressure is low. If pressure is good, start checking other parts associated with the throttle body (i.e., idle air control, injectors, etc.)

I’m considering opening up a small web design shop as a side business within the next year or so, mainly focusing on small businesses and non-profits. I’m curious to know if there is a still a healthy market for site design, considering many small businesses are now using self-publishing platforms like WordPress and other tools. Thanks!

There are a a lot of challenges associated with the starting a small web design shop – (especially targeting small business!) My experience with design work for small business is that they expect a lot for their money, and they don’t always understand that the time it takes for you to explain something to them and help them understand the web is time that you need to be making money.

The nonprofit industry on the other hand can be quite lively and it is not unusual for large nonprofits to need design work regularly. Doing work for an established nonprofit that has a marketing budget is a completely different story. Of course, to get that kind of work requires a lot of work because you have to prove to them that you can deliver. We respond to RFPs from nonprofits all the time and sometimes it takes 10 – 12 hours just to complete the proposal.

The answer to your question is really yes, there is plenty of need for design despite people using self publishing and templates.

But more importantly, the business can be very tough and you need to be well networked and have processes that work. (Including your business development process!)

I understand the physics behind background radiation and that all particles emit radiation but i don’t get how to answer this question from an a- level biology exam question talking about mutations.

I am a going to be a junior this year in school, and I am trying to start up my graphic design portfolio. What are some of the different elements that I should display? I was thinking of doing an add for sneakers, water, and showing how two of the same products would be advertised in different magazine (i.e Harper’s Bazaar and National Geographic) I was also thinking of doing an identity package. But what else should I do?? I really want to have it put together by January and I need some helpful tips and opinions. Thanx!

Some general things that most graphic designer have in their portfolios…

1. Several logos and identities
2. A few specific pieces of advertising
3. A campaign of some sort that shows that you design a system, not just singular items
4. A few books and/or magazine to show that you know layouts
5. Packaging and packaging design
6. Illustrations, preferably both digital and illustrative, depending on what strengths you want to showcase
7. One or two pieces that showcases your typography skills, whether that be a book layout, poster, or something else entirely

Also, I’m not sure how you plan on approaching this project, but you should also consider designing the portfolio itself. One of the least interesting things you can do is to tuck everything you have into a standard portfolio binder and bring it to interviews. Consider designing the portfolio itself as a graphic design project. After all, the portfolio itself should also reflect your ideals as a designer, not just the work inside it.
