What’s the difference between graphic design, computer graphics, etc?
Okay, so a couple of my friends are going into graphic design and I plan on becoming an illustrator. What’s the difference between a graphic designer, someone who does computer graphics, media designer, and illustrator?
The thing is since I wanna be an illustrator, can I have more mediums than just pencil and paper? I wanna use drawing tablets and traditional stuff but I’m just not sure if I’ll be restricted or not :/ I’m really new to this….
Illustration is a specialist subset of graphic design.
You can use whatever media suits the job, bearing in mind that it will at some point have to be digitised.
So you can work in pen and ink or sculpture or any other stops in between, eventually you will have to photograph or scan your work. Or you can start with working at a computer. Or both.
You will have to know how to prepare scans or photographs to the standard required for print quality or web use or both.
What are some good graphic design books and software?
I want to learn how to make banners, avatar, logos etc. I have very little experience in graphic design so if you could recommend software and books for beginners that would be great. Websites and blogs that teaches graphic design would be great too.
you should read this article, that would really help you in this way!
